The most common variety is referred to as Meadow Deathcamas and grows—prepare thyself— in meadows. It looks kinda like an onion when fully grown, which is usually why dum-dums eat it.
The whole plant is poisonous, but the highest concentration of toxins is in the leaves and bulb. There are stories of Natives in Utah allegedly selling it to settlers who then got poisoned, but apparently knowledge about Deathcamas wasn’t widespread so they may have innocently thought they were selling onions.
